The Little Houses of the High Neighborhood

Victor Jara

Las Casitas Del Barrio Alto

Las casitas del barrio alto
Con rejas y antejardín
Una preciosa entrada de autos
Esperando un Peugeot

Hay rosadas, verdecitas
Blanquitas y celestitas
Las casitas del barrio alto
Todas hechas con recipol

Y las gentes de las casitas
Se sonríen y se visitan
Van juntitos al supermarket
Y todos tienen un televisor

Hay dentistas, comerciantes
Latifundistas y traficantes
Abogados y rentistas
Y todos visten polycron

Juegan bridge, toman martini-dry
Y los niños son rubiecitos
Y con otros rubiecitos
Van juntitos al colegio 'high'!

Y el hijito de su papi
Luego va a la universidad
Comenzando su problemática
Y la intríngulis social

Fuma pitillos en Austin mini
Juega con bombas y con política
Asesina a generales
Y es un gánster de la sedición

Y las gentes de las casitas
Se sonríen y se visitan
Van juntitos al supermarket
Y todos tienen un televisor

Hay rosadas, verdecitas
Blanquitas y celestitas
Las casitas del barrio alto
Todas hechas con recipol

The Little Houses of the High Neighborhood

The little houses of the high neighborhood
With bars and front gardens
A beautiful driveway
Waiting for a Peugeot

There are pink ones, green ones
White ones and light blue ones
The little houses of the high neighborhood
All made with recipol

And the people from the little houses
Smile at each other and visit
They go together to the supermarket
And everyone has a television

There are dentists, merchants
Landowners and traffickers
Lawyers and rentiers
And everyone wears polycron

They play bridge, drink martini-dry
And the children are blond
And with other blond children
They go together to the 'high' school!

And the little son of his daddy
Later goes to university
Starting his problematic
And social intricacies

He smokes cigarettes in an Austin Mini
Plays with bombs and politics
Kills generals
And is a gangster of sedition

The little houses of the high neighborhood
With bars and front gardens
A beautiful driveway
Waiting for a Peugeot
