Un Cura de Aldea
Tien una vieya sotana
y un bonete muy gastau.
Tien un rosariu con cuentes
de madera y un breviariu
que lu reza todos los dies
cuando el sol ya ta baxando
en atapecer de oru
o en atapecer de orbayu.
Per la laborá diz la misa
cuando atapez el rosaiu,
per la nochi xuega al tute
y en la cama reza al santu
y asomau al corredor
ponse el probe atristayau
cavila si el so vivir
non tará ya fracasau.
La iglesia fecha de piedra
ta del pueblu en lo más alto
y ye un gozu les campanes
repicar nel campanariu.
Y cerquina de la iglesia
tien so casina el bon parracu
enllená de los afanes
que el vivir va filvanado.
Per les mañanes la misa
cunado atapez el rosariu,
como una esfueya bendita
fecha de rezos y cantos,
y en el camín de vuelta el chigre
ya conoz el su fracasu
si de nochi vuelve a casa
despacin pasin a pasu.
A Village Priest
He has an old cassock
and a very worn-out biretta.
He has a rosary with
wooden beads and a breviary
that he prays every day
when the sun is setting
in golden twilight
or in misty twilight.
He works saying mass
when he finishes the rosary,
at night he plays cards
and in bed he prays to the saint
and leaning on the corridor
the poor man stands
thinking if his life
will not be a failure.
The stone church
is at the highest point of the village
and it's a joy to hear the bells
ringing in the bell tower.
And near the church
the good priest has his little house
filled with the worries
that life keeps spinning.
In the mornings the mass
when he finishes the rosary,
like a blessed effort
made of prayers and songs,
and on the way back to the tavern
he already knows his failure
if at night he returns home
slowly step by step.
