With Sadness and Without Poetry

Antônio Marcos

Com Tristeza e Sem Poesia

Não podia ser tão triste
A canção que agora insiste
Em fazer chorar meu violão.

Essa canção conheceu,
Estradas viu,
Gente maltrada andou
De madraguda
vendo céu e chão.

E viveu tão de repente,
Caminhou tão vagamente
Pelas ruas de ninguém,
Onde passaram
Noutros carnavais
Os blocos
Que eu nem lembro mais,
Só sei, quero o povo a cantar
Os lindos versos de sambar.

Era o morro inteiro, então
Que descia pra viver.
Lá do alto o barracão
Via um samba se nascer.

Lálálálá...

Hoje entrego a fantasia
Com tristeza e sem poesia,
Deixo as ruas do meu carnaval.

Não quero ver
Esse canto meu cantar
O que entristeceu
o samba que nasceu,
Não vai ficar com a canção
Que viu ficar o chão
Matou o violão
A dor de madrugada.

Viu
gente maltrada,
Viu
ficar o chão,
Matou um violão
A dor de madrugada.

Viu
gente maltratada,
Viu
ficar o chão,
Matou um violão
A dor de madrugada.

Viu
gente maltrada,
Viu
ficar o chão,
Matou o violão...

With Sadness and Without Poetry

It couldn't be so sad
The song that now insists
On making my guitar cry.

This song has seen,
Roads it traveled,
People who’ve been hurt walked
In the early dawn
Seeing sky and ground.

And it lived so suddenly,
Walked so aimlessly
Through the streets of no one,
Where passed
In other carnivals
The blocks
That I can't even remember anymore,
All I know is, I want the people to sing
The beautiful verses of samba.

It was the whole hill, then
That came down to live.
From up high the shack
Saw a samba being born.

Lálálálá...

Today I give up the fantasy
With sadness and without poetry,
I leave the streets of my carnival.

I don’t want to see
This song of mine sing
What saddened
The samba that was born,
It won’t stay with the song
That saw the ground stay
Killed the guitar
The pain of the early dawn.

Saw
People who’ve been hurt,
Saw
The ground stay,
Killed a guitar
The pain of the early dawn.

Saw
People who’ve been mistreated,
Saw
The ground stay,
Killed a guitar
The pain of the early dawn.

Saw
People who’ve been hurt,
Saw
The ground stay,
Killed the guitar...
