Truth Doesn't Live In a Book
Everybody knows that the bible is full of wisdom
The good book is great
But, a few thousand years of disputes and debates
Have shown that the text was written
In such a way that it inherently requires intensive
Rigorous, and constant interpretation!
Did you know that when the bible was given
It was delivered along with an oral tradition
Which, at the time, was expressly forbidden
To be written down?
Now, the reason why, I submit, must be
Is that this was to prevent undue rigidity
You see, the bible is a living work that needs to breathe
In order to stay alive
Now, I hope my approach won't be seen as ham-fisted
And we all know that words get distorted and twisted
But, it is my contention that some of the best bits
Were not written down
Always have a little bit of salt with your tequila
Don't smoke your stash if you're gonna be a deala'
Try to drink at least eight cups of water every day
Always keep your hockey stick on the ice
If you wanna cut once, ya better measure twice
There's no such thing as a lunch that's really free
An eye for an eye means fair compensation
It doesn't mean take up arms with another nation
Anything written down can be twisted apart
Don't be ashamed to talk about your mental health
Try to love your neighbor like ya love yourself
That one's in there, but it always gets forgotten

The good book is only a lens to focus the view
Justice for all is composed of the ugliest compromises
You can't only look at the lens, you gotta look through
There's no such thing as a virgin conception
Every good rule has a notable exception
Don't surround yourself with friends who only agree
Don't count your eggs before they're chicken
Ask for consent before ya put your dick in
Ain't nothing wrong with homosexuality
Don't get caught with your pants around your ankle
If you wanna hide your money, stick it in a Swiss Bank-Le
Every banking system needs a lot of regulation
Never draw a picture of the prophet Mohammed
Unless you're a cartoonist and ya really, really wanna
Illustrate cultural insensitivity
Truth doesn't live in a book, you find it in the little surprises

De Waarheid Leeft Niet In Een Boek
Iedereen weet dat de bijbel vol wijsheid staat
Het goede boek is geweldig
Maar, een paar duizend jaar van geschillen en debatten
Hebben aangetoond dat de tekst geschreven is
Op een manier die inherent intensieve
Strenge en constante interpretatie vereist!
Wist je dat toen de bijbel werd gegeven
Het werd geleverd met een mondelinge traditie
Die, in die tijd, uitdrukkelijk verboden was
Om opgeschreven te worden?
Nu, de reden waarom, stel ik voor, moet zijn
Dat dit was om onnodige starheid te voorkomen
Je ziet, de bijbel is een levend werk dat moet ademen
Om levend te blijven
Nu hoop ik dat mijn benadering niet als onhandig wordt gezien
En we weten allemaal dat woorden vervormd en verdraaid worden
Maar, het is mijn stelling dat sommige van de beste stukjes
Niet opgeschreven zijn
Heb altijd een beetje zout bij je tequila
Rook je stash niet als je een dealer gaat zijn
Probeer elke dag minstens acht koppen water te drinken
Houd altijd je hockeystick op het ijs
Als je eenmaal wilt snijden, moet je twee keer meten
Er bestaat niet zoiets als een lunch die echt gratis is
Een oog om een oog betekent eerlijke compensatie
Het betekent niet de wapens opnemen tegen een andere natie
Alles wat opgeschreven is kan verdraaid worden
Wees niet beschaamd om over je mentale gezondheid te praten
Probeer je naaste te liefhebben zoals je jezelf liefhebt
Die staat erin, maar wordt altijd vergeten

Elke goede regel heeft een opmerkelijke uitzondering
Omring jezelf niet met vrienden die alleen maar het eens zijn
Tel je eieren niet voordat ze kippen zijn
Vraag om toestemming voordat je je lul erin steekt
Er is niets mis met homoseksualiteit
Laat je niet betrappen met je broek om je enkels
Als je je geld wilt verbergen, stop het in een Zwitserse bank
Elk banksysteem heeft veel regulering nodig
Teken nooit een afbeelding van de profeet Mohammed
Tenzij je een cartoonist bent en je echt, echt wilt
Culturele ongevoeligheid illustreren
