Banquete de Belsazar
Numa orgia nefanda
O rebelde Belsazar
Com os grandes do seu reino
Todos eles a folgar
Com espanto pararam
Quando o rei estremeceu
Na parede a mão divina
Escrevendo, apareceu
Lá no céu a mão de Deus!
Lá no céu a mão de Deus!
Vê qual seja a tua sorte
A tua vida ou morte
Lá no céu escreve a mão de Deus
No palácio, os festivos
Nobres não souberam ler
Tal escrita na perede
Logo o rei, todo a tremer
Vir mandou bem depressa
O cativo Daniel
Que, do escrito na perede
Deu a tradução fiel
A sentença foi grave
Ao monarca dos caldeus
Que vivia no pecado
Sem temor nenhum de Deus
'O teu reino passou-se
Na parede escrito está
Na balança da justiça
A tua alma em falta está
Tua vida, ó amigo
Nesta hora escrita está
O registro dos teus atos
Deus, no céu, escreve já
Que Jesus, pois, te faça
Tal escrita compreender
Que, em havendo tempo, possas
Sua graça receber
Lá no céu a mão de Deus!
Lá no céu a mão de Deus!
Vê qual seja a tua sorte
A tua vida ou morte
Lá no céu escreve a mão de Deus
Banquet of Belshazzar
In a wicked orgy
Rebellious Belshazzar
With the nobles of his kingdom
All of them having a blast
They froze in shock
When the king trembled
A divine hand on the wall
Writing, it appeared
There in heaven, God's hand!
There in heaven, God's hand!
See what your fate is
Your life or death
There in heaven, God's hand writes
In the palace, the revelers
Nobles couldn't read
Such writing on the wall
Soon the king, all a-quake
He quickly sent for
The captive Daniel
Who, from the writing on the wall
Gave the faithful translation
The sentence was severe
To the king of the Chaldeans
Who lived in sin
Without any fear of God
'Your kingdom has passed
It's written on the wall
In the scales of justice
Your soul is found wanting
Your life, oh friend
Is written at this hour
The record of your deeds
God is writing in heaven now
May Jesus help you
Understand such writing
So that, while there's time
You can receive His grace
There in heaven, God's hand!
There in heaven, God's hand!
See what your fate is
Your life or death
There in heaven, God's hand writes
