Casa Assombrada
Logo no cantar do galo, arreei o meu cavalo, parti sozinho pra trás
Pendurei a minha tralha e soltei meu alazão
Enxuguei a minha roupa, fiz minha cama no chão
A casinha balançava no estrondo do trovão
Me deitei todo encolhido, comecei ouvir gemidos lá embaixo do porão
Me benzi por muitas vezes e continuei rezando
Haunted House
When I was a cattle driver, a time that won't come back
Something happened to me that I’ll never forget
I took a herd through the backcountry of Goiás
With seven buddies, I was the foreman
When I got to Catalão, beyond Minas Gerais
I delivered that herd, left them locked in the pens
I slept poorly that night, missing my folks
As soon as the rooster crowed, I saddled my horse, rode off alone
I traveled for nine hours up the hill
When afternoon came, a light rain started to fall
Not a soul in sight, just the birds of prey
The rain picked up with the mist rolling in
My horse, already tired, struggled up the hill
I prayed to Our Lady for divine protection
At that moment, I spotted down the hill
An abandoned house, I decided to rest in this lonely stretch of Minas
I hung up my gear and let my chestnut go
With sticks from the wall, I lit the old stove
I dried my clothes, made my bed on the floor
The little house shook with the thunder's roar
Something very strange started to give me chills
I had a feeling of some kind of haunting
With goosebumps, I said my prayer
Curled up in bed, I began to hear moans from below
That ugly moan was getting closer to me
I thought it was someone just passing by
With the rain pouring, the house started to leak
The sad voice belonged to a man who was dying
The house is really haunted, I kept thinking
I blessed myself many times and kept praying
A stronger lightning struck, lighting up the room
I looked to the side, saw a man hanging from the wall, swaying
I pulled out my .38 with special sights
And shouted, "Here comes the fire, defend yourself, Satan!"
Whether I was right or wrong, it didn’t matter
I can say that the moan was no longer heard
The day was breaking, the sun was showing signs
I continued my journey to Querência dos Pinhais
I stopped being a cattle driver, changed my ideals
I let go of all the hands, never took cattle to Goiás again
