Che Guevara

Che Guevara

Quanto tempo è passato da quel giorno d'autunno
di un ottobre avanzato, con il cielo già bruno;
sapere a brutto grugno: "Che" Guevara era morto.
In quel giorno d'ottobre, in terra boliviana,
a mangiare illusioni e verità a ogni ora.
Anni di ogni scoperta, anni senza rimpianti:
"forza compagni all'erta, si deve andare avanti".
intonandole tutte quelle nostre chimere.
e voi a decine che usate parole diverse, le stesse prigioni;
da qualche parte un giorno,
dove non si saprà,
dove non l'aspettate,
il "Che" ritornerà!

Che Guevara

How long has it been since that autumn day
of a late October, with the sky already gray;
through exam sessions, days lost in laziness,
youthful junk, we got the news, no less.
It hit us like a punch, froze us in despair
to know with a grim face: "Che" Guevara was no longer there.
On that October day, in Bolivian land,
Ernesto "Che" Guevara was betrayed and damned.
The books grew dim, the room turned dark,
because with him our hope had lost its spark.
It was the enchanted years of sung myths and protests.
It was the days spent discussing and weaving our best quests.
"Che" Guevara was dead
but everyone believed
that with us his thoughts
in the world would be weaved.
Seasons passed, but we kept on still
eating illusions and truths at every meal.
Years of every discovery, years without regrets:
"stay alert comrades, we must move ahead".
And we always moved forward, with our flags held high,
singing all those dreams that would never die.
On an October day, in Bolivian land,
with a hundred shots, Ernesto "Che" Guevara was banned.
The third world weeps, now everyone knows
that "Che" Guevara is dead, he won't return, that’s how it goes.
But something was changing, the days of those emotions ended
and the old enemies raised their heads against the rebellions they pretended.
"Che" Guevara was dead
and everyone understood
that a hero was lost,
that something was through.
And something in the years truly came to an end,
crashing against the lies of daily life, my friend.
The comrades of a day either left or sold out,
it seems we circle around a few survivors, no doubt.
That’s why now I want to hear
a voice that still starts to cheer:
On an October day, in Bolivian land,
with a hundred shots, Ernesto "Che" Guevara was banned.
The third world weeps, now everyone knows
that "Che" Guevara is dead, maybe he won’t show.
But you reactionaries tremble, revolutions aren’t done,
and you in your dozens using different words, the same prisons won;
somewhere one day,
where no one will see,
where you least expect it,
"Che" will return, just wait and see!
