Primadera hastetik uda azkenerat,
Xinaurria bazoan landa bazterrerat,
Xori papo gorria arbola gainerat
Egun oroz juaiten zen kantuz aritzerat
Eta xinaurriari trufa egiterat.

Xinaurria goizian hasia lanari,
Egun guzietako duen gogoari;
Karga ezin altxatuz zen nigarrez ari,
Xoriak itzalpetik kantu eta irri,
Xinaurriak derauko zerbeit erran nahi.

¬Xoria, hitz hau diat hiri erraiteko.
¬Nik ere bi beharri hiri aditzeko.
¬Kanpuan baduk hainitz ontasun biltzeko,
Emak xoko batean neguan jateko,
Lanean hasten bahiz, ez zauk dolutuko.

Xinaurri lepho mehe itsusi kiskila,
Ez nitzauk hire ganat jiten deusen bilha;
Lanian ez duk ari ihizi abila,
Utzak, utzak, hik ere, lan hori, ergela;
Berdin urthe guziez, jiten duk uztaila.

Negu beltza heldu da abendoarekin,
Horma eta elhurra haize hotzarekin,
Xinaurria orai da gauza frangorekin,
Ongi jan et´edaten bere lagunekin,
Xoria zer egin den nahi luke jakin.

Xinaurria goizean badoa kanporat,
Xoria ere berdin usatu-lekhura:
¬Kanta zak, kanta orai kantu pollit hura.
¬Nundik kanta dezaket oraino barura,
Sarraraz nezak othoi hire etxolara.

¬Haizen bezalakoa, hoakit bixtatik,
Zer behar othe duk hik ene etxolatik?
¬Emak aphur bat bederen hire askaritik.
Othoi begira nezak gosiak hiltzetik,
Gehiago ez diat erranen gaizkirik.

¬Auherra hizalakotz ez nau urrikaltzen,
Ikhusak, ikhus, orai zertaratu haizen;
Jinkoak eman onez ez hiz baliatzen,
Jakintzak negukoa udan dela biltzen,
Goratzekotz lehenik ikhasak aphaltzen.

Xinaurriak ziona erran xoriari
Erran ahal daiteke mundu guziari:

Lot gaiten beraz denak bihotzez lanari
Lurreko´ta zeruko egitekoari.

Squirrel

From spring to the end of summer,
The squirrel scurries to the edge of the woods.
A red-breasted bird flies to a tree,
Every day it would come singing a tune,
Making fun of the squirrel with laughter.

The squirrel gets to work early in the morning,
Facing the battles of every single day;
Struggling to lift the load, it’s crying,
The birds from the shadows sing and laugh,
The squirrel has something to say.

This is what I say to the bird, to speak to the city.
I also need two to hear you.
Outside, you have many things to gather now,
Give me a corner to eat in winter,
If you’re tied to work, you won’t be sad.

The squirrel, with its ugly thin tail,
I can’t reach you, I’m not looking for anything.
You’re not working, you’re a lazy one,
Let it go, let it go, you too, that work, you fool;
Every year you come back just like January.

From spring to the end of summer,
The squirrel scurries to the edge of the woods,
A red-breasted bird flies to a tree,
Every day it would come singing a tune,
And making fun of the squirrel.

The squirrel starts working in the morning,
Facing the desires of every day;
Struggling to lift the load, it’s crying,
The birds from the shadows sing and laugh,
The squirrel has something to say.

"Bird, I say this to speak to the city."
"I also need two to hear you."
"Outside, you have so much goodness to gather,
Give me a corner to eat in winter,
If you start working, you won’t be sad."

The squirrel, with its thin ugly tail,
I can’t come to you looking for anything;
You’re not working, you’re a lazy one,
Let it go, let it go, you too, that work, you fool;
Every year you come back just like July.

The dark winter has arrived with December,
Walls and snow with the cold wind,
The squirrel now has many things,
Eating well and drinking with its friends,
The bird wants to know what to do.

The squirrel goes out in the morning,
The bird also goes to the same place:
"Sing now, sing that pretty song.
Where can I still sing to get inside,
I can’t sneak into your little house."

"Like the wind, it’s blowing from the side,
What do you need from my little house?
Give me at least a little bit from your stash.
Looking at the house, I see hunger dying,
I won’t say anything bad anymore."

"The master of the house doesn’t bother me,
Look, look, now what’s happening;
The gifts given are not being used,
Knowledge gathers in winter,
To rise, first, you must learn to fall.

The squirrel said to the bird,
It can be said to the whole world:
It’s often lazy, hungry, and thirsty.
So let’s all get to work with our hearts,
To make what’s on earth and in the sky.
