Txakurraren partia
Gu gazte giñadela txalupa guziak
zakurtxo bat ohi zuten ontzi barrenean
begi erne, abilla, ez zen zaunkaria
ihes zihoan arraia harrapatzailea
Seme esango dizut nola gertatzen zen
puñittutako arraia, suelto batzuetan
legatza ospa, ihes, txakurra jauzten zen
ta bet-betan arraia hartzen zuen hortzetan.
Lana horren saria 'txakurraren partia'
deitzen genuen guziok, ongi merezia
maitea-maitea zen txakur ehiztaria
txalupa betetzen zuen anima gabeak.
Unea etorri da zuri kontatzeko
zer nolako txakurra zen gure Txuriko
uhin izugarriak ez zuen izutuko
arraia utzi baino, lehenago itoko.
Goiz itsusi batean ez naiz ez ahaztuko
bere lana beteaz jauzi zen Txuriko
baga handi artean, ehiza ez utziko
legatz handi batekin ito zen betiko.
The Dog's Game
We were young, all aboard the boat
there was a little dog inside the vessel
with a keen eye, a hunter, not a barker
chasing after the ray, the catch of the day.
I’ll tell you how it went down
with the stingray caught, loose in the nets
flounder escaping, the dog would leap
and right then, he’d snag the ray in his teeth.
The reward for that work we called 'the dog's game'
everyone agreed, it was well-deserved
the beloved hunting dog was a champ
filling the boat with spirits, no doubt.
The time has come to tell you
what kind of dog our Txuriko was
he wouldn’t be scared by monstrous waves
before letting the ray go, he’d drown it first.
On an ugly morning, I won’t forget
how Txuriko jumped in, doing his job
among the big fish, he wouldn’t give up
he was drowned for good with a giant flounder.
