And then one morning, to my surprise
My career just, up and died
I called my manager on the telephone he said

And that building full of people all forgot my name
Now life as I knew it will never be the same
Drank myself stupid, took pills galore
Spent a lot of time out with Betty Ford

I walked up to a stranger I did not know
I said, Excuse me sir, but, before you go
I need to ask, do you know my name?
Cause I need someone to tell me that I'm still the same

Then he leaned in close and with a tear in his eye
He spoke like a man who could no longer lie

Once in a while I'm still recognized
Take a few pictures, sign some autographs
Shake a few hands, have a few laughs
