Vaixell de Grecia
Si per les albes veieu passar un vaixell
besant les aigües del mar bressol dels déus,
feu-li senyal, que pugui veure on som
i caminar amb nosaltres cap al nord.
Si no duu xarxa, ni orsa, ni timó,
no penseu mai que ho hagi perdut tot,
que el poble sempre podrà inflar el velam
per guanyar onades fetes de por i de sang.
Vaixell que plores igual que plora el meu,
que duus la pena i el dol que porta el meu,
vaixell de Grècia, que no t'enfonsi el tro,
infla les veles que anem al mateix port.
Greek Ship
If at dawn you see a ship passing by
kissing the waters of the cradle sea of the gods,
signal to it, so it can see where we are
and walk with us towards the north.
If it doesn't carry a net, or a bear, or a rudder,
don't ever think it has lost everything,
for the people will always be able to hoist the sail
to conquer waves made of fear and blood.
Ship that cries just like mine cries,
that carries the pain and grief that mine carries,
Greek ship, may the storm not sink you,
inflate the sails as we head to the same port.
