Alexandre, o ferreiro, causou-me muitos males
O Senhor lhe dará a retribuição pelo que fez
Previna-se contra ele
Porque se opôs fortemente às nossas palavras
Na minha primeira defesa
Ninguém apareceu pra me apoiar
Todos me abandonaram
Que isso não lhes seja cobrado
Quando a gente tem em mente
Que essa carta de Paulo ao seu amando Timóteo
É, na verdade, uma solene convocação
Pra obra do ministério
Essa sessão aqui onde ele fala
Sobre a traição de Alexandre
E o abandono que sofre durante sua primeira defesa
Demonstra o nível de sinceridade de Paulo pra com Timóteo
Não existe nenhuma intenção
De maquiar a realidade do ministério
Timóteo não estava sendo enganado
Quanto aos terríveis perigos de se lançar na preciosa jornada
Que é a proclamação da verdade de Deus
Quanto ao velho Paulo, prepara seu jovem sucessor

Ele podia falar pra Timóteo
Sobre naufrágios
Apedrejamentos
Tudo isso Paulo sofreu
Tudo isso poderia sobrevir a Timóteo
Mas o que Paulo considera
De singular importância no fim das contas
É preparar Timóteo pra traição no campo
Timóteo, Alexandre, isso dói
Se até mesmo nosso Cristo
Teve que passar pelo amargo anoitecer
De um beijo amigo
Que o levou diretamente aos braços de seus perseguidores
Estaria Paulo livre de sofrer o mesmo?
Deveria Timóteo se enganar
Quanto a real possibilidade
De provar também em sua face esse beijo?
Ao que tudo indica
Segundo alguns comentaristas
Alexandre teria sido alguém influente
Com quem Paulo poderia ter contado
Durante seu primeiro julgamento
Mas ao invés de oferecer ajuda no caso de Paulo
Alexandre teria sido seu principal opositor

Sem amaldiçoar a si mesmo
Sem desacreditar sua própria jornada?

Quantos estão aqui pra lhe devolver esse abraço?

Se chegar ao ponto de envolver-se
Até submergir no oceano desse evangelho
E já não saber mais quem é você e quem é Cristo
Aonde começa Cristo em você
E até onde vai você em Cristo
Você pode chegar sim, ao ponto de estar sozinho
Escrevendo pra algum amigo distante
Ei, me envia aí uma capa e alguns livros
Mas as escrituras garantem que
Não é possível de forma nenhuma
Que você chega ao seu último dia
Sem a presença do mesmo Cristo que o encontrou
Com mesmo olhar compassivo que lhe acolheu
Paulo continua o texto dizendo
Mas o Senhor permaneceu ao meu lado
E me deu forças para que por mim
A mensagem fosse plenamente proclamada
O Senhor me livrará de toda obra maligna
E me levará a salvo pro seu reino celestial
A ele seja a glória pra todo sempre

O convite do velho Paulo ao seu amado, Timóteo
Não era pra se jogar em absoluta insegurança
No mar revolto afinal de contas, não
Era o oposto
O convite de Paulo era pra que Timóteo
Subisse ao navio mais firme
Aliás, que subisse na rocha inabalável
Que é Cristo
Por isso a insistência
Timóteo, eles podem regredir
Pode acontecer daquele lá te trair
E o outro te machucar
Na verdade, vai acontecer
De muitos virarem as costas
Pro evangelho que você proclama
Tu, porém, permaneça firme
