El Sueño del Soldado

Stephen Sondheim

The Soldier's Dream

[Fritz]
Oh my God, that soldier

[Colonel]
That lieutenant!

[Fritz]
That lieutenant is so soulful

[Claudia]
Gorgeous

[Raffael]
Dreamy

[Colonel]
Funny, you should say dreamy
You see, my soulful gorgeous lieutenant had a fascinating dream last night!
At ease, lieutenant, tell us your dream

[Lieutenant]
I was in a Café, which looks somewhat like this
Sitting next to a girl, who looks something like you
And she whispered her name
I've forgotten her name
But the name was like music

[Fritz]
Fritz!

[Lieutenant]
That was it, that was it!
And you and you were there
And you and you and you!
All wearing shrouds

[Waiter]
Shroud? Anyone, a shroud?

[Lieutenant]
And then I noticed that you'd all been dead for years

[Waiter]
A shroud, Signora?

[Lieutenant]
Except for the girl with a name like a rainbow!

[Fritz]
Fritz!

[Lieutenant]
Oh my God!

[Fritz]
Oh my God!
Oh!

[Leo]
That was it? That's the dream?

[Lieutenant]
Then my mother came in

[Paul]
Of course!

[Lieutenant]
She was holding a sheep

[Paul]
What else?

[Lieutenant]
And she said to me

[Mother]
Honey, stop dreaming!

[Lieutenant]
So I started to wake, but the girl with the name took a hold of my hand
And said

[Fritz]
Never forget me

[Lieutenant]
Though, how could I forget her when we never had met?
Then I looked in her eyes
And I thought: Oh, my God

[Fritz]
Oh my God

[Lieutenant]
It's the end of the world
There is nothing but you
I've been looking for love all my life
I've no farther to go
I want only to be with you, live with you, die with you
That much I know
Then my mother came in

[Paul]
Again?

[Lieutenant]
And I saw that the sheep was stuffed
And the sky was cloth, and the clouds were just paint
And the food was just rubber

[Claudia]
He's right! It is rubber!

[Leo]
This isn't wine, it's goddamn cherry soda!

[Raffael]
It's too bad, I was rather enjoying the brie

[Lieutenant]
Then a curtain went up, and I realized
We were all in a play, on a stage, in a theater!

[Marianne]
Who are those people?

[Leo]
What the fuck?

[Paul]
I don't know my lines!

[Lieutenant]
Then I looked in her eyes
And I thought
If it's only a play

[Fritz]
Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!

[Lieutenant]
Still, it's given me you

[Fritz]
Oh my God

[Lieutenant]
I've been looking so long

[Fritz]
This is not what I need!

[Lieutenant]
You are all that I need!

[Fritz]
Not yet

[Lieutenant]
In my life

[Fritz]
Not now!

[Lieutenant]
Only you

[Fritz]
I don't have any room in my life!

[Lieutenant]
And me
For now
Forever

[Fritz]
For this
For you

[Lieutenant]
All I need is to be with you, live with you, die with you

[Fritz]
I've got too much to do!

[Lieutenant]
That much I know

[Fritz]
There's just not enough time!
Then I look in your eyes, and I think
Holy crap, it's the end of!

[Lieutenant]
Then a train passed through
And I suddenly knew
It was not just the end of the world
But the end of the play
And the end of my dream

[Fritz]
Oh my God!
Oh my God!

El Sueño del Soldado

[Fritz]
Oh Dios mío, ese soldado

[Coronel]
¡Ese teniente!

[Fritz]
Ese teniente es tan sensible

[Claudia]
Precioso

[Raffael]
Soñado

[Coronel]
Es curioso que digas soñado
Verás, mi teniente sensible y precioso tuvo un sueño fascinante anoche!
Relájate, teniente, cuéntanos tu sueño

[Teniente]
He olvidado su nombre
Pero el nombre sonaba como música

[Fritz]
¡Fritz!

[Teniente]
¡Eso era! ¡Eso era!
Y tú y tú estaban allí
Y tú y tú y tú!
Todos vestidos de mortaja

[Mesero]
¿Mortaja? ¿Alguien, una mortaja?

[Teniente]

[Fritz]
¡Fritz!

[Teniente]
¡Oh Dios mío!

[Fritz]
¡Oh Dios mío!
¡Oh!

[Leo]
¿Eso fue todo? ¿Ese es el sueño?

[Teniente]
Entonces mi madre entró

[Paul]
¡Por supuesto!

[Teniente]
Ella estaba sosteniendo una oveja

[Paul]
¿Qué más?

[Teniente]
Y me dijo

[Madre]
¡Cariño, deja de soñar!

[Teniente]
Y dijo

[Fritz]
Nunca me olvides

[Teniente]
Aunque, ¿cómo podría olvidarla si nunca nos conocimos?
Luego miré en sus ojos
Y pensé: Oh, Dios mío

[Fritz]
Oh Dios mío

[Teniente]
Es el fin del mundo
No hay nada más que tú
He estado buscando amor toda mi vida
No tengo más a dónde ir
Solo quiero estar contigo, vivir contigo, morir contigo
Eso es lo que sé
Luego mi madre entró

[Paul]
¿Otra vez?

[Teniente]

[Marianne]
¿Quiénes son esas personas?

[Leo]
¿Qué demonios?

[Paul]
¡No sé mis líneas!

[Teniente]
Luego miré en sus ojos
Y pensé
Si solo es una obra

[Fritz]
¡Oh Dios mío, oh Dios mío, oh Dios mío!

[Teniente]
Aún así, me has dado a ti

[Fritz]
Oh Dios mío

[Teniente]
He estado buscando tanto tiempo

[Fritz]
¡Esto no es lo que necesito!

[Teniente]
¡Eres todo lo que necesito!

[Fritz]
¡No todavía!

[Teniente]
En mi vida

[Fritz]
¡No ahora!

[Teniente]
Solo tú

[Fritz]
¡No tengo espacio en mi vida!

[Teniente]
Y yo
Por ahora
Para siempre

[Fritz]
Por esto
Por ti

[Teniente]

[Fritz]
¡Tengo demasiado que hacer!

[Teniente]
Eso es lo que sé

[Fritz]
¡Simplemente no hay suficiente tiempo!
Luego miro en tus ojos, y pienso
¡Santo cielo, es el fin de!

[Teniente]
Luego pasó un tren
Y de repente supe
No solo era el fin del mundo
Sino el fin de la obra
Y el fin de mi sueño

[Fritz]
¡Oh Dios mío!
¡Oh Dios mío!
