Fire Down Below
When I was young, yes just a lad, me father told me son
Ye have te promise never ever a sailor to become
Upon our family befallen, has an awful curse
And if ye try te fight yer fate, yeah'll only make't worse
Yer father's father went to sea ye see, it didn't start-out well
He brought a wench in ladies clothes 'n' sent them straight to hell
A horny lad of twenty years, he tried to kiss the dame
But dropped a lamp upon the deck'n set the ship on flames
And soon there after all the men cried - fire down below!
Ye brought a wench and now we're doomed, the ship is gonna blow!
Yer grandpa died right there at sea, but the curse passed on to me
As a sailor I set out to be, I lost me limbs at sea
A stray shot of a spaniard ship hit a powder keg
A fiery blast like nothing else gave me two wooden legs
I lay there legless under deck with fire down below!
Then I rolled overboard before the ship was gonna blow
I've always known me father be a lier and a drunk
And that same night as pa' passed out, I packed his sailor's trunk
I enlisted on a man o' war to prove me old man wrong
I would show that unlike him, I at the sea belonged
But suddenly I heard the swab cry fire down below!
And I prayed to God, don't let them say - the ship is gonna blow!
I lay there sobbing like a lass, begind the main top mast
As others manned the pumps and put the fire out real fast
I cursed me selff I felt ashamed, then got back to me feet
I swore to never more disgrace the british royal feet
But one day later, I smelled smoke and fire down below!
And all the men cried, save yer selves, the ship is gonna blow!
I remember smoke and burning flames, followed by a boom
Then I woke up on a beach to see, me arms were lost 'n' doomed
Now I know fer sure me son, the curse fer real it be
I moved off coast so you will never, look upon the sea
But in me sleep I still hear screams = there's fire down below!
I jump the bed, scream is I wake - the ship is gonna blow!
Fuego Abajo
Cuando era joven, sí, apenas un chico, mi padre me dijo hijo
Debes prometer nunca jamás convertirte en marinero
Sobre nuestra familia ha caído una terrible maldición
Y si intentas luchar contra tu destino, solo lo empeorarás
El padre de tu padre se fue al mar, ya ves, no empezó bien
Trajo a una mujer vestida de damas y los mandó directo al infierno
Un joven cachondo de veinte años, intentó besar a la dama

Trajiste a una mujer y ahora estamos condenados, ¡el barco va a explotar!
Tu abuelo murió en el mar, pero la maldición pasó a mí
Como marinero que intentaba ser, perdí mis extremidades en el mar
Un disparo de un barco español alcanzó un barril de pólvora
Una explosión ardiente como ninguna otra me dio dos piernas de madera
Me quedé sin piernas bajo cubierta con fuego abajo!
Luego me lancé por la borda antes de que el barco explotara
Siempre supe que mi padre era un mentiroso y un borracho
Y esa misma noche, cuando papá se desmayó, empacé su baúl de marinero
Me enlisté en un barco de guerra para demostrar que mi viejo estaba equivocado
Mostraría que a diferencia de él, yo pertenecía al mar
Pero de repente escuché al marinero gritar ¡fuego abajo!
Y recé a Dios, no dejes que digan - ¡el barco va a explotar!
Me quedé sollozando como una niña, detrás del mástil mayor
Mientras otros manejaban las bombas y apagaban el fuego muy rápido
Me maldecí a mí mismo, me sentí avergonzado, luego me puse de pie
Juré nunca más deshonrar los pies reales británicos
Pero un día después, olí humo y fuego abajo!
Y todos los hombres gritaron, sálvense, ¡el barco va a explotar!
Recuerdo humo y llamas ardientes, seguidas de una explosión
Luego desperté en una playa para ver que mis brazos estaban perdidos y condenados
Ahora sé con certeza, hijo mío, que la maldición es real
Me alejé de la costa para que nunca veas el mar
Pero en mis sueños aún escucho gritos - hay fuego abajo!
Salto de la cama, gritando al despertar - ¡el barco va a explotar!
