Ich traf neulich eine Person in einem Zug, er fuhr nach SüdenI met a person recently on a train, it was going south
Ich versuchte schüchtern, mit ihr zu sprechen, doch die Worte blieben mir im Hals steckenI very shyly tried to speak to her but the words, they stuck in my mouth
"Komm her," sagte sie zu mir, mit einer Stimme, die ich kaum hören konnte"Come here," she said to me, in a voice I could hardly see
"Sag mir, was ist los mit dir? Warum schaust du so auf mich?""Pray, tell me what is it with you? Why are you looking there at me?"

Ich sprach zu ihr, ohne nachzudenken, ich sagte: "Ich liebe dich, das glaube ich wirklich!"I spoke to her without thinking, I said, "I love you, I do believe!"
Sie schlug mir mit beiden Händen ins Gesicht und fragte, ob ich gehen würdeShe slapped my face with both her hands and asked me if I would leave
Ich schrie: "Oh nein, das meinte ich nicht, aber andererseits, ja, ich glaube, ich tat es!"I screamed, "Oh no, I didn't mean that, but then again, yes, I think I did!"
Sie sagte: "Okay, Tom, komm mal her," und öffnete den DeckelShe said, "Ok, Tom, come over here," and she opened up the lid

Bald fand ich mich auf dem Boden wieder, ich konnte nichts sehen und nichts fühlenI soon found myself upon the floor, I could not see or could not feel

Als ich wieder zu mir kam, hatte der Zug, in dem ich war, seine letzte Haltestelle erreichtWhen I came to, the train I was in, it had made its final stop
Und als ich meine Augen öffnete, stand da ein Polizist vor mirAnd as I opened up my eyes, there before me was a cop
Er sagte, ich sei betrunken und ohne Geld, Stolz und Ticket auchHe said that I was drunk and without money, pride and ticket too
Dann brachten sie mich ins County Jail, oh, was hätten sie sonst tun können?Then they ran me down the County Jail, oh, what else could they do?

Ich versuchte zu erklären, von der Dame, die mit mir im Zug warI tried to explain about the lady who was with me on the train
Aber sie standen alle herum und schauten mich an, als wäre ich verrücktBut they all stood round and looked at me like I was insane
Ich flehte um Gnade und Verzeihung und auch um eine ZigaretteI begged for mercy and forgiveness and for a cigarette too
Doch sie gaben mir sechs Monate Zwangsarbeit, oh, was hätten sie sonst tun können?But they gave me six months hard labour, oh, what else could they do?

Während ich im Gefängnis war, traf ich einen alten Cowboy, der sagte, er mochte mich sehrWhile in jail, I met an old cowboy, who said he liked me fine
Er ließ mich ein Pferd für ihn stehlen und ich bekam zusätzliche ZeitHe made me steal a horse for him and I got extra time
Nun, die Moral dieser Geschichte, ich denke, das könnt ihr alle sehenWell, the moral of this story, I expect you all can see
