I write with difficulty
In scrapings of soot
Mixed with blood
In the last year

Hope has quite
Departed from my breast
Terrible warnings
Noted in myself

My reason will not long remain unimpaired
I declare I am in the possession of my right mind.

Determine to erase
Straightens us out

One frenzied aspiration
Of the populace
Was for imitations
Questionable place

Virtues of antiquity
For sacrifices
Self - immolations
On the people's altar
