Ik stopte en vroeg een vreemde oude man die naar het Oosten keek,I stopped and asked a strange old man who was looking to the East,
of hij toevallig de tijd wist.if perchance he knew the time of day.
Hij keek me zo plotseling aan met zo'n woeste blik,He looked at me so suddenly and with such a fiercesome gaze,
dat ik de wijsheid in zijn ogen kon zien.that I could see the wisdom in his eyes.
"Met ogen om te zien," zei hij,"Having eyes to see," said he,
"kun je de tekens die in de lucht en op je ziel geschreven staan, niet lezen?"can you not read the signs that are written in the sky and on your soul?
Want nu brandt de lucht rood en er is nog maar één ding dat niet gezegd is:For now the sky is burning red and there's just one thing left unsaid:
