The Voice Of Spring

A silence laced with words
Candles flickering to the cadence of my breath
Fireflies painting the night
Snow hallucinations gone in the blink of an eye
The welling of water beneath me, from early morning’s rain
Which pools in the lip of the stream
We share a likeness
For this is the voice of spring

My daughter sings to the sky
Pulling down the stars, and strings them marigolds
Weaving them into a crown
As her voice measures the distance
Between stones and flying seeds
For this is the voice of spring

A blessing for exhausted ewes
