Of No Consequence

Skyward I reach to touch the distant stars
Feeling so small in face of the universe
My mind reels at the enormity of it all
I am no one, nothing before, and nothing will I ever be
Close my eyes and feel my spirits fall

Content to live in the dark, I never wanted this
Illuminated by enlightenment
repulsive and incomplete, this meaningless life that I lead

Awakened to the reality of my insignificance, I defy and try to resist
So defiantly I'd fly, against all reason, and expectations
As the years went by, the lower I'd fly, dragged down by my defeats
No hope of going back to that simplicity
Rising from the past, these memories of better days

This is my role in life
a minor player on a massive stage
I lie awake and contemplate these images of my escape from this futility
Unsatisfied with being

What motivation can there be when realization sets you free?
"a tale full of sound and fury, signifying nothing"

So now I sleep all day,
while outside the rain gracefully dampens my dreams and desires
This knowledge I've gained at the cost of my loss of contentment
Has left me waiting silently for the end.
