Betsy Belle y Mary Gray

Betsy Belle And Mary Gray

Oh, Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, eran dos muchachas preciosasOh, Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, they were two Bonnie lasses
Hicieron una cabaña en aquella colina y la cubrieron de sarmientosThey biggit a bower on yon burnside and theeked it o'er wit' rashes

Bella Betsy Belle, a quien amé tanto y pensé que nunca podría cambiarFair Betsy Belle I loved so well and thought I ne'er could alter
Pero los dos ojos descarados de Mary Gray hicieron que toda mi fantasía flaquearaBut Mary Gray's two cheeky eyes caused all my fancy falter

Oh, Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, eran dos muchachas preciosasOh, Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, they were two Bonnie lasses
Hicieron una cabaña en aquella colina y la cubrieron de sarmientosThey biggit a bower on yon burnside and theeked it o'er with rashes

El cabello de Betsy es como hilo de oro, sonríe como una mañana de mayoBetsy's hair's, like flaxen gold, she smiles like a May morning
Cuando Febo parte del regazo de Teoto, las colinas con rayos adornanWhen Phoebus starts from Thoetus' lap, the hills with rays adorning
Blanco es su cabello, suave su mano, su cintura y sus pies fluyen con delicadezaWhite is her hair, soft is her hand, her waist and feet flow gently
Con toda la gracia que puede manejar, sus labios, lo juro, son delicadosWith every grace she can command, her lips, I vow, are dainty

Oh, Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, eran dos muchachas preciosasOh, Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, they were two Bonnie lasses
Hicieron una cabaña en aquella colina y la cubrieron de sarmientosThey biggit a bower on yon burnside and theeked it o'er with rashes

Los mechones de Mary son como los de un cuervo, sus ojos como el brillo de un diamanteMary's locks are like the crow, her eyes like diamond's glances
Ella es, ay, tan limpia, roja y cruda, mata cada vez que bailaShe's, aye, so clean, red-up and raw, she kills whene'er she dances
Blythe de niña, ingeniosa y decidida, está floreciendo, esbelta y altaBlythe as a kid with wit and will, she's blooming, tight and tall she is
Y guía sus aires con tanta gracia aún, oh, Dios, ella es como tu palacioAnd guides her airs so graceful still, oh, Jove, she's like thy palace

Oh, Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, eran dos muchachas preciosasOh, Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, they were two Bonnie lasses
Hicieron una cabaña en aquella colina y la cubrieron de sarmientosThey biggit a bower on yon burnside and theeked it o'er with rashes

Jóvenes Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, ustedes, los insensatos, nos oprimenYoung Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, ye unco saer oppress us
Nuestras fantasías se quedan entre vosotras dos, sois unas muchachas muy guapasOur fancies fee between ye two, ye are such Bonnie lassies
Ay de mí, porque no puedo conseguir ambos, a uno de ellos por ley estamos limitadosWoe's me for both I cannot get, to one by law we're stinted
Entonces echaré suertes y aceptaré mi destino y estaré con alguien contentoThen I'll draw straws and take my fate and be with one contented

Oh, Betsy Belle y Mary Gray, eran dos muchachas preciosasOh, Betsy Belle and Mary Gray, they were two Bonnie lasses
Hicieron una cabaña en aquella colina y la cubrieron de sarmientosThey biggit a bower on yon burnside and theeked it o'er with rashes

Pero ni Betsy Belle ni Mary Gray pudieron jamás calmar mi fantasíaBut Betsy Belle nor Mary Gray could quell my fancy ever
La plaga provino del pueblo de las madrigueras y los mató a ambos juntosThe plague came from the burrows-town, it slew them both together
