Paper Boats In The Rain

I built a bridge with broken crayons
Watched it bend beneath the weight
Colors melting into puddles
Dreams don’t always hold their shape

Paper boats in the rain
They’re floating
Holding pain
But they don’t sink
They never drown
They carry me to solid ground

A tree grows tall through cracked cement
Its roots defy the gray and cold
I carve my name into its bark
A story told but never sold

The rain can’t wash it all away
Some marks are meant to stay
