Gone Fishing

Broke the boat and headed to the lake
Didn't get there fast enough
I wait long, I couldn't wait to be there
5am always came too late when I couldn't sleep the night before
Hit that water and I prayed the day wouldn't end

He always seemed to catch more than I did
I wanted so bad to be like him

So you could tell by the way it's far what it was
I always wondered how he did that
And it never really mattered how much we caught
He'd say
Had a good day, son, and we always did
Going fishing when I was a kid
I learned about patience and how to be a man

Now I've grown up and moved away
And the fishing trips are harder to take
Now and then we still get a chance to go
5am still comes too late when I can't sleep the night before
Hit that water and I thank God for the day
