Por el sendero plateado, la luna se alzóBy the silvery pathway, the moon arose
Hacia el firmamento, negro como una fe quemada,To the firmament, black as a scorched faith,
Y con su majestuosa y serena luzAnd by its majestic and serene glare
Tocó tiernamente el poderoso bosque.It tenderly touched the mighty forest.

El bosque dormía en la sombra de sus copas y raícesThe wood slept in his crowns and roots shade
Y veía el musgo y las hierbas en sus sueños.And saw the moss and weeds in his dreams.
Como guerreros, los árboles permanecían inamovibles,Like a warriors, trees stood immovable,
Sin ocultar su honor y grandeza.Not hiding their honor and grandeur.

Y las estrellas brillaban como los ojos del lobo,And stars shineth like eyes of the wolf,
Su brillo no se ahogaba de inmediato en un río,Their glare not at once drowns in a river,
Sobre las manos del río, frías y largas,Upon river’s hands, cold and long,
Esa luz fue llevada lejos entre las montañas.That shine was brought far among mounts.

Y una densa niebla sombría tejía todo alrededor,And utter grim fog weaved all around,
Se aferraba a las nubes con un susurro de hojas,He claimed unto clouds with a rustle of leaves,
Contaba todo sobre tocones y abetos,He told everything about stubs and fir-trees,
Sobre todo lo verdadero e irreal - él decía.About all that was true and unreal - he said.

Pero el bosque no dormía, levantaba sus templos,Yet the forest not slept, he arose his temples,
Y las sombras de los árboles parecían estar vivas.And shadows of trees seemed as alive.
Una tierra daba su calor, una llama cautivaA land gave her heat, a captive flame
Que guardaba para los descendientes hasta hoy.That she kept for descendants unto this day.

Y el humo se alzaba alto desde las cumbres de las montañas,And smog arose high from mountains peaks,
Su vapor regresaba con las lluvias,Their steam returned back by the rains,
Un aire, denso como las nieblas sobre el lago,An air, thick as the mists above lake,
Vagaba por el bosque nocturno...Was wandering through the nocturnal wood…

Y el cuervo, enorme como no un pájaro,And the raven, huge even like not a bird,
Planeaba sobre el bosque, por las cumbres de las montañas.Hovered above forest, by the mountains peaks.
Con la mirada llena de sabiduría, atenta y agudaBy the gaze full of wisdom, attentive and sharp gaze
Observaba su bosque por orden de los dioses.He watched his skog by the order of gods.

Y allí, en el corazón mismo del bosque,And there, in the very heart of the wood,
Lejos de los claros y senderos estrechos,Far from the glades and narrow tracks,
En el nido que construyó con paciencia y esperanzaIn the nest that he built with patience and hope
Contemplaba a sus hijos - que ya estaban muertos...He beheld his sons - that were dead yet…
