The Sick Note

Cher Monsieur, je vous écris cette note pour vous parler de mon étatDear Sir, I write this note to you to tell you of me plight
et au moment où j'écris, je ne suis pas très beau à voir ;and at the time of writing, I am not a pretty sight;
mon corps est tout noir et bleu, mon visage d'un gris mortelme body is all black and blue, me face a deathly gray
et j'écris cette note pour dire pourquoi Paddy n'est pas au travail aujourd'hui.and I write this note to say why Paddy's not at work today.

En travaillant au quatorzième étage, j'ai dû dégager des briques ;While working on the fourteenth floor some bricks I had to clear;

Maintenant, dégager toutes ces briques à la main, c'était très lent,Now, clearing all these bricks by hand it was so very slow,
Alors j'ai hissé un baril et sécurisé la corde en bas.so I hoisted up a barrel and secured the rope below.
Mais dans ma hâte de faire le boulot, j'étais trop aveugle pour voirBut in me haste to do the job I was to blind to see
qu'un baril plein de briques de construction était plus lourd que moi.that a barrelful of building bricks was heavier than me.

Alors quand j'ai dénoué la corde, le baril est tombé comme du plombSo when I untied the rope the barrel fell like lead

et j'ai atterri sur les briques brisées qui étaient éparpillées autour.and I landed on the brocken bricks that were all scattered round.

Eh bien, j'étais là à gémir sur le sol, je pensais avoir passé le pire,Well, I lay there groaning on the ground, I thougth I'd passed the worst,
lorsque le baril a frappé la poulie et que le fond a éclaté.when the barrel hit the pully-wheel and then the bottom burst.
Eh bien, une pluie de briques est tombée sur moi, je n'avais pas d'espoirWell, a shower of bricks rained down on me, I hadn't got a hope
alors que je gémissais sur le sol, j'ai lâché la putain de corde.as I lay there moaning on the ground, I let go of the bloody rope.

Le baril étant plus lourd, il a recommencé à descendre,The barrel than being heavier, it started down once more,
