Ella estaba en sus corazonesShe was in your hearts
y estaba en sus mentes,and she was in your mind,
estaba en todos los malditos alcantarilladosshe was in all stinking sewers
pero no estaba satisfecha.but she wasn't satisfied.

Respiraba el arteShe breathed the art
y bebía tristeza,and drank sorrow,
sentía libertadshe felt freedom
pero no era comprendida.but she wasn't understood.

La conocí en la caña,I had met her in the reed,
estaba llorando y me contó su historiaShe was crying and told me her story
y luego se rió, bailó y cantóand then she laughed, dance and sing
porque nadie podía entenderla.because no one could understand her.

Ella cantaba:She sang:
Bailando, estoy bailando, bailando...Dancing, I'm dancing, dancing...

Me quité los zapatosI took off my shoes
y caminé por todo el país,and walked around the whole country,
luego vi la puesta de sol,then I saw the sunset,
su risa también.its laugher too.

Llegué a la caña,I came to the reed,
mi cuerpo comienza a bailar,my body starts to dance,
estoy riendo y cantandoI'm laughing and singing
porque nadie puede entenderme.because no one can understand me.
