Contaba las piedras en la orilla del mar,I was counting the stones on the seashore,
Buscando las preciosas.Looking for the precious ones.

El tiempo pasaba.Time moved on.
Había recolectado muchas piedras hasta que me cansé de ellas,I had collected many stones 'til I tired of them,
Y creo que ellas se cansaron de mí.And I think they tired of me.
Algunas eran encantadoras, pero nunca quedaba satisfecho,Some were lovely, but I was never satisfied,
Y el mar seguía rodando a mi lado todo el tiempo.And the sea rolled on beside me all the time.

Y el viento se levantó, del este y frío.And the wind rose, east and cold.

Y dijo "Mira, tonto,And it said "Look you fool,
Estás perdiendo cosas preciosas:You are missing precious things:
Levanta los ojos y mira hacia el mar".Raise your eyes and look towards the sea."

Era como si viera el mar por primera vez,It was as if I saw the sea for the first time,
Y su poder me cautivó.And it's power captured me.
Todo el tiempo que había perdido buscando piedras,All the time I had wasted seeking stones,
Había perdido la gloriosa inmensidad del mar.I had missed the rolling glory of the sea.
