Recuerdo cuando era pequeño solía ir a verlo casi todos los díasWhy i remember when i was little i used to go and see him nearly every day
Solo para sentarme y escuchar sus historias y pasar el tiempoJust to sit and hear his stories an' while some time away
Estaba en su apogeo cuando había niños a su alrededorWhy he was in his height of glory when there was children around his feet

He visto veces en que la gente estaba enferma y el viejo caminaba millasWhy i've seen times when folks was sick that the old man would walk for miles
Solo para ofrecer su ayuda y tratar de colaborar un pocoJust to offer his assistance and try to help out a little while

Encontró al viejo Juan sentado en su silla mecedora caseraHe found old john sittin' in his homemade rockin' chair
Hojeando una vieja biblia y leyendo pequeños versículos aquí y alláThumbin' thru a worn out bible and readin' little scriptures here and there
El doctor estaba asustado y nervioso porque no sabía por dónde empezarThe doc was scared and he was nervous cause he didn't know quite where to start
Su conciencia lo atormentaba, venía a romperle el corazón al viejoDon't you know his conscience fought him he come to break the old man's heart
Pero reunió valor y encontró las palabras para decirBut he gathered up his courage and he found the words to say

Debe haber sido un coro de ángeles que empezó a cantar en los oídos de ese viejoWhy there must've been a choir of angels started singin' in that old man's ears
