Una noche oscura y tormentosa,One dark and stormy night,
un polluelo cayó del vuelo,a fledgling fell from flight,
en los brazos de un halconero--into a falconer's arms--
Aunque parecía muerto,Though dead it seemed to be,
el halconero no podía ver,the falconer could not see,
inguna herida que causara tal daño--any wound to cause such harms--

El halconero lo ató,The falconer bound it 'round,
y lo puso en el suelo,and laid it on the ground,
luego fue y construyó una pira funeraria--then went and built a funeral pyre--

de poder mágico tanto oscuro como justo--of magic power both dark and fair--

Habló el miedo del halconero,Up spoke the falconer's fear,
"Puede haber peligro aquí,"There may be danger here,
no puedo dejar libre a este rapaz--I cannot let this raptor free--
No puedo confiar en sus palabras,It's words I cannot trust,
arde con lujuria de poder,it burns with power's lust,
y así a su vez podría quemarme--"and so in turn it could burn me--"

El halconero entonces se movió rápido,The falconer then moved fast,
y lanzó grilletes de hierro,and iron shackles cast,
atrapando así al ave en cadenas--thus catching up the bird in chain-
"Tu miedo ha augurado mal,"Thy fear has boded ill,
y me ha atado contra mi voluntad,and bound me 'gainst my will,
ahora debo morir y renacer de nuevo--"now I must die and rise again--"

El fénix ardió tan brillante,The phoenix burned so bright,
que estalló en la noche,it burst upon the night,
su pecho dorado llameaba y brillaba--it's golden breast did flame and flare--
Un destello de fuego y luego,One flash of fire and then,
vino la noche tormentosa de nuevo,came stormy night again,
y encontró al halconero sosteniendo aire!and found the falconer holding air!

La magia nunca muere,The magic never dies,
en los corazones de los niños yace,in children's hearts it lies,
