A New Friend

I built a robot from car parts that ran on steam
It seemed
Awkward but it was the best way to make me a new friend:
A machine

Emotions I crafted so carefully from the steel
It'd feel
Aligned to my interests, protective, bound to my will
I was thrilled

I flipped on the power
The cogs now in motion
The engine it screamed as I backed towards the door
Oh no, I thought
Now I've gone and done it
But before I could run it roared

You've won a most wonderful week
In the south of France

Come, now we go to the snowy peaks of the Alps
And ski down

Needless to say this delighted me
Like a child
I smiled
Robot and I
Rode down the west side highway
In style, so wild
