Firmament

So my heart did a back flip
I guess that’s what they’d say
I hadn't seen her since high school graduation
I brought my old hopes
She brought her fiance
And we shared some inane conversation

Just as beautiful, oh just as charming
But lord, what is this third dimension
She has the dignity of a life not for me
Plans that I needed a wrench in

They lined the firmament
These angels of mine
So pretty, and so far from the ground
