Hansel and Gretel got lost in the woods.Hänsel und Gretel verirrten sich im Wald.
It was already dark and so bitterly cold.Es war schon finster und auch so bitter kalt.
They came upon a little house made of gingerbread so fine:Sie kamen an ein Häuschen von Pfefferkuchen fein:
Who might be the owner of this little house?Wer mag der Herr wohl von diesem Häuschen sein?

Hey, hey, an old witch peeked out,Hu, hu, da schaut' eine alte Hexe raus,
she lured the children into the gingerbread house.sie lockt die Kinder ins Pfefferkuchenhaus.
She acted very friendly, oh Hansel, what a plight!Sie stellte sich gar freundlich, oh Hänsel, welche Not!
She wanted to roast him in the oven brown like bread!Ihn wollt' sie braten im Ofen braun wie Brot!

But when the witch looked into the oven,Doch als die Hexe zum Ofen schaut hinein,
she was pushed by our little Gretel.ward sie gestoßen von unserm Gretelein.
The witch must now roast. The children go home.Die Hexe muß jetzt braten. Die Kinder gehn nach Haus.
