Let them shine

I used to wonder why I'd see the dark before the dawn
But deep inside my soul there burns a need to carry on
And I will never walk alone because I will always have my song
Walking down the street I see the children playing there
Reminded me of yesterday when I didn't have a care
When I heard their laughter, you know I had to stop and stare

But there ain't no chaining down a young child's dream
And you can't stop their beating hearts from
Tearing at the seams
When it's time to let 'em shine
You let them shine

She looks around and around, I see her fading there
She longs to touch again, but she don't care
for a moment, and the moment slips back again
And I've found everything I trust in the eyes of little ones
We long to be them
But the years have had their fun
And now all we have is to learn from some mistakes
