Maybe She Fell

She's got a bruise the shape of Texas by her eye,
Way too blue for Revlon to disguise.
And one shaped like California on her cheek.
The thought of how it got there leaves me weak
I watch her in the check-out line
These thoughts are racing through my mind
I bet he's sorry every time

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't want to be right.
Maybe she doesn't scream at night,
Maybe I'm reading into this too far
Maybe I should shut my mouth
But I just want to scream out loud
"Get Away from him, pack up and run like hell
But then again maybe she fell

Her stitches look like tiny rail-road tracks
I hope they take her far away from him and fast
She catches me staring and turns away
Pulls her hair a little closer to her face
I want to tell her its ok
She doesn't have to live this way
But he walks in, What can I say?

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't want to be right.
Maybe she doesn't scream at night,
Maybe I'm reading into this too far

He takes her change out of her hand
And says, "You take too long."
She sees me slam my number in her sack
And suddenly they were gone.

Maybe I'm reading into this too far,
Maybe she'll finally figure out,
Life shouldn't have to be about
Keeping painful secrets to yourself
That's when maybe she'll tell

It's so hard to tell.
