Vine to Vine

I was a breath
Short of death
I was in grave danger

And I tried with all my might
To grab myself in the assault of this
Strange stranger

I never did expect such intolerance from such a
Ranger
And now my body lies in the heat of the Texas sun
No time for revenge
Or anger

My wife sits and waits for me
But I will never come back home
Only so many years on this Earth
And this is how I go?

This land I have broken
Now has broken my fall
One bullet through the palm of my raised hand
From a vicious man
Not even that tall

Bury me south
Of the divided street
Pack that land
In between my teeth

I've always had my death
All planned out
And it just so happens
To be right now
