Strong Swimmer

Nageur Fort

Strong Swimmer

Tu étais un nageur si fortYou were such a strong swimmer
Et tu m'as appris commentAnd you taught me how
Ne jamais craindre ces grandes vaguesTo never fear those tall waves
Et tu restaisAnd you stayed
Dans ces eaux profondesIn those deep waters
Toujours invitantAlways inviting
À un lit au fondTo a bed on the bottom

Et ce courant t'a emportéAnd that current took you away
Et ça t'a fait payer et payerAnd it made you pay and pay
Quand je t'ai vu, je ne savais pas ton nomWhen I saw you I didn't know your name

C'était un hiver si longIt was such a long winter
Quand la glace avait fonduWhen the ice had thawed
Il n'y avait pas grand-chose qui avait survécuThere wasn't much that survived it
Il faut plusIt takes more
Qu'un nageur fortThan a strong swimmer
Pour rester à flotTo stay above water
Avec un corps diviséWith a body divided

Et ce courant t'a emportéAnd that current took you away
Et ça t'a fait payer et payerAnd it made you pay and pay
Quand je t'ai vuWhen I saw you
Je ne savais pas ton nomI didn't know your name
Quand je te voisWhen I see you

Tu m'as dit que tu avais cachéYou told me you had stashed away
Une note qui expliquerait la façonA note that would explain the way
Dont tu te sentais si jamais on te trouvait partiYou felt if we would ever find you gone
La rivière sait seulement continuerThe river only knows to carry on
La rivière sait seulement continuerThe river only knows to carry on
