Early Morning Hymns

Waking up warm and
waking up to see your cans and bottles thrown across the floor

waking up hurting
grabbing for a can of more
Someone's coat there hanging on the door
can't remember the night before

to the bathroom confess your sins
and sing some early morning hymns

Stumble down the hallway
upstairs to second floor
feeling calm now as you reach the door

just about to lose it
someone's in they locked the door
falling down now yeah here it comes
the spinning room, the crushing tons

and not that pain that won't go away
curse and wallow in shame

hours later when you wake up again
in a mess and a note from a friend
