There was a man of talent
Who spoke with wit and grace
He wore a stylish trilby
That framed a poet's face
So I sought out his company
His friend, he let me be
Then I saw he was diminished by
Association with me
All the flowers were blooming
When I saw you from afar
How I wished to be with you
To kiss you in the car
But when you turned my way
And smiled so wistfully
I saw you'd be diminished by

What am I to do
With this thing that brings me down?
That takes an easy weightless smile
And turns it to a frown?
Maybe I'll turn to Jesus
