I'll Never Be

You keep saying “look alive”, but I don’t know what that means
When your face looks like somebody bust the ghost in your machine
Your life is dedicated to digging your own grave
I try to stay above the surface, except on nights I get depraved

And if I am deluded then that’s just what I’ll be
I’m only gonna see the things I want to see
I guess I won’t be loaded, it doesn’t bother me
I’ll put it on the list of things I’ll never be

We walked round empty factories at the end of Friday nights
But that teenage acid courage tends to wither under lights
If they thought we were weird kids then we’re even weirder now
I don’t wanna join the rat race - if I did I don’t know how

You say that I’m naive, so naive’s what I must be
With the sunlight on my back and my feet dipped in the sea
Cockroaches move quickly to avoid the tanglefoot
I think I’ll probably do the same until my dreams get mangled up
