Cancer

I had it all worked out in my head til now,
But the plans we made were all in vain.
These tiny drops tick like a clock,
Just counting down until you’re not not around

She reaches over and takes my hand cause she knows I can’t let her go.
This cancer’s taken all that she’s got, but someone has to be strong
Sympathy cards and flowers come most every hour
With consoling words that don’t heal the hurt.
I understand the condolences but

It’s hard when every word breaks my heart again
