Straight to a neighboring ranchDireito a um rancho lindeiro
Asking for my motherPedia por minha mãe
Kerosene for the lampQuerosena pra candeeiro

I took to the neighborLevava para o vizinho
Jerked beef, orange, cassavaCharque, Laranja, Mandioca
And the hope little by littleE a esperança de aos pouquinhos
To see your young braidVer tua trança chinoca

The bush that follows the riverO mato que segue o rio
Has a narrow pathTem uma estreita picada
It's a dark friendÉ um amigo sombrio
Carrying my guarded storyTraz minha história guardada

It keeps the scent of flowersGuarda o aroma das flores
Smell of wet rootCheiro de raiz molhada
It saw me endure the hardshipsMe viu pechar com os rigores
Heading to the beloved ranchRumbeando ao rancho da amada

To sit next to youPra sentar junto contigo
And share mate with the heartE dar mate ao coração
So you came with meAssim tu vinhas comigo
Without leaving your cornerSem sair do teu rincão

That wandering little roadAquela estradinha andeja
Opened by cattle and peopleAberta por gado e por gente
Has rosemary, has carquejaTem alecrins, tem carquejas
That remind me of happy timesQue lembram de mim contente

And has only hoof marksE tem só marcas de casco
Towards your dwellingPra o lado da tua morada
On the way back... I was so lightNa volta... eu vinha tão leve
That I didn't even leave a mark on the roadQue nem marcava na estrada

Another fifteen days of workMais quinze dias de lida

In that broken down mud wallNaquela taipa arrombada
In the winter of the old shackNa invernada da tapera
Each ripple of the waterholeCada mareta da aguada

There I saw myself in reverseAli me vi ao inverso
In the crystal clear waterNa flor d'agua cristalina
And I wrote my first verseE fiz meu primeiro verso

And the wild herdsE as tropilhas cimarronas

And so I became a poetE assim me tornei poeta
Singer and wandererCantador e vira-mundo
And you remained, discreetE tu ficaste, discreta
Embroidering these depthsEmbelezando esses fundos

I never found your charmJamais achei teu encanto
In this scattered timePor este tempo disperso
I returned to find my songVoltei pra encontrar meu canto
And complete your verseE completar o teu verso

Little flower of the open field that enchants us from the countrysideFlorzita de campo aberto a nós do campo apaixona
Take care of the free cattle and the wild herdsTe cuida o gado liberto e as tropilhas cimarronas
