Ducks

I write a new song every time I feel sore
And I have this dream where
I sprint out my front door into the street
I'm not fast but I'm mean
I'm not quick but I'm sure
And when I wake up I'm not anymore

When I write a new song
I strip it down to the bone
Listen over and over
Till I have all my ducks in a row
Grab my gun
One by one
They fall down

I'm afraid I’ll never be more than I seem

When I write a new song
I take it out for a ride
Play it all my best music
Till there’s no other choice but to cry
And I won’t make a move
But you can bet your life they do
And I won’t bide my time
Or give you any piece of my mind
