Searchlight in the forest
Illuminates the figures
Of two missionaries
Hunting for the breath
Of the mountaintop
As the air gets thinner
They begin to notice
Pink-needled ferns
And mushrooms of a blue flesh
Hitherto unknown
At the plateau's nearing
They come upon a clearing
To interrupt the conference
Of long-hidden giants
Clad in dew

Perfume of a phantom
Curls into their nostrils
Bidding them ascend
The crimson-marbled ladder
To the lip of the plant
Fell into its water
They become the spires
Of a half-digested
Steeple of small rodents
Drowned in prayer
