Darling Nelly Gray

Meine liebe Nelly Gray

Darling Nelly Gray

Es gibt ein tiefes grünes Tal am alten Kentucky-Ufer,There’s a low green valley on the old kentucky shore,
Dort habe ich viele glückliche Stunden verbracht. There i’ve while many happy hours away.
Sitzend und singend vor der kleinen Cottage-Tür,A-sitting and a-singing by the little cottage door,
Wo meine liebe Nelly Gray lebte.Where lived my darling nelly gray.

Oh! Meine arme Nelly Gray, haben sie dich fortgenommen,Oh! my poor nelly gray, have they taken you away,
Und ich werde meine Geliebte nie wiedersehen. And i’ll never see my darling anymore.
Ich sitze am Fluss und weine den ganzen Tag,I’m a sitting by the river and i’m weeping all the day,
Denn du bist vom alten Kentucky-Ufer gegangen. For you’ve gone from the old kentucky shore.

Eines Nachts ging ich, um sie zu sehen, doch "sie ist weg," sagen die Nachbarn,One night i went to see her but “she’s gone,” the neighbors say,
Der weiße Mann band sie mit seiner Kette,The white man bound her with his chain,
Sie haben sie nach Georgia gebracht, um ihr Leben zu verbringen,They have taken her to georgia for to wear her life away,
Während sie in der Baumwolle und dem Zuckerrohr schuftet. As she toils in the cotton and the cane.
