Drunkard's Hell

It was on one dark and starless night
I heard and saw an awful sight
The lighting flashed and the thunder roared
All around the drunkard's feet

I started home to change my life
To see my long neglected wife
I found her kneeling by her bed
She said our darling baby was dead

I took her by her trembling hand
She was so weak she could not stand
On bended knees I prayed a prayer
That God might save and protect us there

Who preached like Paul who once did say
Our sins have all been washed away
That whiskey stay as far from me
as the mountains are from the deep blue sea
