The date was set
By failed harvest
And when it hit home
Invitations were sent
For their ghosts
To arrive at winter solstice

As the day rolled over
As the sun declined
At the chapel arrived
Thieves in the night
On their way
Through the green country.

Finest tables were set
Under the Elms of old
Where they waited
Trees were pruned in the garden
To guide the strangers to the sun
Which they would become.
