Der Becher ist nicht halb leer, wie Pessimisten sagenThe cup is not half empty as pescimists say
So weit er sieht, ist nichts mehr im BecherAs far as he sees nothing's left in the cup
Ein ganzer Becher voll Nichts, in dem er schwelgen kannA whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
Seit die Stimme der Ambition längst verstummt istSince the voice of ambition has long since been shut up

Ein Sänger, ein Schriftsteller, er träumt jetzt nicht davon, nirgendwohin zu gehenA singer, a writer, he's not dreaming now of going nowhere
Er schenkte nichts Beachtung, und alles, was er warHe gave heed to nothing, and all that he was
Ist nur eine TragödieIs just a tragedy

So reist er im KreisSo he voyages in circles
Schafft es, nirgendwohin zu kommenSucceeds getting nowhere
Und fügt sich dem StoffAnd submits to the substance
Der ihn zuerst dorthin brachteThat first got him there

Dann schreit er in wütender Frustration zu Gott oder einfach zu niemandemThen in violent, frustration he cries out to God or just no one

Gewaltsame FrustrationViolent frustration
Er schreit zu Gott oder einfach zu niemandemHe cries out to God or just no one
