Sé que es de muy mal gusto citar las propias críticas, pero me gustaría mencionar algo que el New York Times dijo sobre mí hace un año y que siempre he apreciado: 'La musa del Sr. Lehrer no está coartada por factores inhibidores como el buen gusto'.I know it's very bad form to quote one's own reviews, but I would like to mention something that the New York Times said about me a year ago which I've always treasured -- they said: "Mr. Lehrer's muse is not fettered by such inhibiting factors as taste".

Ahora llegamos a esa peculiar parte de la cultura estadounidense conocida como el himno de lucha de fútbol americano. Hace poco, al regresar de mi lección con el profesional de Scrabble en el club de Harvard en Boston, recordé los días de mi época universitaria hace mucho tiempo, cuando solían haber esas largas tardes de sábado en otoño sin nada que hacer, la biblioteca cerrada, solo esperando a que comenzaran las fiestas con cócteles. Y en ocasiones como esa, algunos de nosotros solíamos ir al... creo que se llamaba el estadio, para ver si había algo sucediendo allí. Y uno se daba cuenta de que los himnos de lucha de fútbol americano que se escuchan en estadios similares tienden a ser algo groseros, e incluso violentos, y sería refrescante, por decir lo menos, encontrar uno un poco más refinado. Y aquí está, dedicado a mi propia alma mater, y llamado ¡Lucha Ferozmente, Harvard!Now we come to that peculiar bit of Americana known as the football fight song. I was reminded not too long ago, upon returning from my lesson with the Scrabble pro at the Harvard club in Boston, of the days of my undergraduacy long ago when there used to be these very long Saturday afternoons in the fall with nothing to do -- the library was closed -- just waiting around for the cocktail parties to begin. And on occasions like that, some of us used to wander over to the... I believe it was called the stadium, to see if anything might be going on over there. And one did come to realize that the football fight songs that one hears in comparable stadia have a tendency to be somewhat uncouth, and even violent, and that it would be refreshing, to say the least, to find one that was a bit more genteel. And here it is, dedicated to my own alma mater, and called Fight Fiercely, Harvard.
