Metieron al pobre grano de cebada en un saco en un día frío y lluviosoThey put poor barley into a sack of a cold and rainy day
Y lo llevaron a los campos de cuillin y lo quemaron en la arcillaAnd took him off to the cuillin´ fields and burned him in the clay
La helada y la nieve comenzaron a derretirse, y el rocío comenzó a caerThe frost and snow began to melt, and the dew began to fall

Me trillaron y me remojaron, y me secaron en el hornoThe thrashed me and they steeped me, and they dried me in the kiln
Me usaron diez veces y peor que eso, me molieron en el molinoThey used me ten times and worse than that, they ground me in the mill
Me usaron en la cocina, me usaron en el salónThey used me in the kitchen, they used me in the hall
Me usaron en el salón entre todas las damasThey used me in the parlour among the ladies all

Oh, el grano de cebada es un grano cómico, hace que los hombres suspiran y gimanOh the barleycorn is a comical grain, it makes men sigh and moan
