Rising Kingdom

I’ve lost track
Of times I looked back
A happy face, a better place, without disgrace
I try to think of when it was
What set it off, was it because
I aimed too high, had too much greed
I reached for things, I didn’t need
So be careful what you wish for, my friend
Kingdoms often fall in the end
Heed the words of those who are wise
And with some luck your kingdom may rise

I don’t know when
We’ll meet again
The future’s blind, your fate and mine, intertwined
A life as king, a step too far
I burned too bright, a shooting star
I paid the price, I failed the test
For what it’s worth, I tried my best

And suffered heartaches
But through it all
The rise and fall
A life well lived, that’s what I’d say
