Me dediqué a estudiar y explorarI devoted myself to study and explore
Con sabiduría, todo lo que se hace bajo el cieloBy wisdom, all that is done under heaven
¡Qué pesada carga Dios ha puesto sobre los hombres!What a heavy burden God has laid on men

He visto todas las cosas que se hacenI have seen all the things that are done
¡Bajo el Sol, persiguiendo al viento!Under the Sun, a chasing after the wind!

Lo que está torcido no puede enderezarseWhat is twisted can not be straightened
Lo que falta no puede contarseWhat is lacking can not be counted

Me esforcé por comprenderI applied myself to the understanding
La sabiduría y también la locura y la necedadOf wisdom and also of madness and folly
Pero aprendí que esto tambiénBut I learned that this too
Es perseguir al vientoIs a chasing after the wind

Lo que está torcido no puede enderezarseWhat is twisted can not be straightened
Lo que falta no puede contarseWhat is lacking can not be counted
Con mucha sabiduría viene mucha tristezaWith much wisdom comes much sorrow
Cuanto más conocimiento, más dolorThe more knowledge, the more grief

No me negué nada, mis ojos deseabanI denied myself nothing, my eyes desired
No rechacé ningún placer a mi corazónI refused my heart no pleasure
Mi corazón se deleitaba en todo mi trabajoMy heart took delight in all my work

Y esta fue la recompensa por todo mi esfuerzoAnd this was the reward for all my labour
Sin embargo, cuando examiné todo lo que mis manos habían hechoYet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
Y lo que había trabajado por lograrAnd what I had toiled to achieve
¡Todo era perseguir al viento!Everything was a chasing after the wind!

Con mucha sabiduría viene mucha tristezaWith much wisdom comes much sorrow
Cuanto más conocimiento, más dolorThe more knowledge the more grief

El destino del necio me alcanzaráThe fate of the fool will overtake me
Entonces, ¿qué gano siendo sabio?What then do I gain by being wise
Porque el sabio, como el necioFor the wise man, like the fool
No será recordado por mucho tiempoWill not be long remembered
En los días venideros ambos serán olvidadosIn the days to come both will be forgotten
¡Como el necio, el sabio también debe morir!Like the fool, the wise man too must die!
